This is my finished piece for the Idea of Place project! This piece is inspired by a picture of Ferris Wheel I took in Santa Monica, California. This place is important to me because my family and I bonded over this view and were in awe of how beautiful it was. It was a very cool moment witnessing my family taking the views in. The most challenging thing about the picture I picked was the intricate detail of the wheel itself. I tried to simplify it a little bit. I feel like I did a really good job towards the bottom of the piece with the water, the pier, and the gradient of each of those things. This is a photo of the piece in progress. My process of going about this piece was to paint the biggest parts of the scene first; hence the finishing of the sky, the bottom of the pier, the water, and the Ferris wheel itself. I then went in and added a lot of detail where it needed to be, focusing on getting the colors that stay towards the front or top of the piece last. I really focused on making sure the painting process was as easy as I could make it, even though it was a lot of detail to work on. These are the hue shades we practiced. I think this was the most helpful warm up for me as well because I had a variety of color in my piece. I needed to know the very bases of mixing shades, tints, and tones.
