For this assignment, we were supposed to pick a picture of a fruit or a vegetable and draw it, using Prismacolor pencils to shade it with the various colors. We were supposed to look for colors we normally wouldn't see. I have included a variety of, reds, oranges, yellows, greens, and browns along with white in this piece.

For this assignment, a white ribbon was supposed to twisted to incorporate loops into it. We were then supposed to draw the ribbon with shading and draw the loops in it. The brighter the color was on the ribbon, the brighter the white was on the drawing. We were also supposed to draw the shadows coming from the ribbon. Before we started our final still life project, we were supposed to draw six composition sketches to get an idea about where our focus would be. These are the composition sketches I did, click on them to view.
For this assignment, we were first supposed to shade a value chart, with black on one extreme and white on the other. We then were supposed to use value and shadow to shade various shapes on our tables. Here is the value scale and shaded shapes:
For this assignment, we were supposed to draw bags and fabric with value. The paper bags were crinkled so that there were a lot of folds and value differences. The fabric was naturally folded to include shadow and different lines. Here are my bag and fabric drawings:
Here are my contour room drawings. Self Evaluation Q: Did you use a fluid line? Explain how this is evident.
A: I did use a fluid line. This is evident through the flow of the piece and how every part of the drawing is connected. The line never stopped. Q: Explain how your knowledge and creating practice studies with contour line contributed to the success of your piece. A: The practice with the hands, the shoe, and the backpack helped me with practicing contour drawings. It was hard at first to not lift up the pen, but as we did more drawings I got used to it. I learned that these drawings require time and patience, as drawing lines constantly to make it look good can take a long time to finish. Q: Describe the difference in your contour line drawing to an outline drawing. A: The difference between my contour line drawing and an outline drawing is the flow of the lines. Contour lines utilize a single, flowing line that doesn't stop. Outline drawings utilize multiple lines and are more rough/"sketchy" than its latter. Q: Explain how your interpretation of line is essential in capturing the look of the room. A: The interpretation of line can be perceived in different ways for different people. Since this was supposed to be a contour line drawing, it was important to understand that the line should be a continuous, flowing piece that contributed to the whole drawing. It was also important to continuously look at the subject and the drawing at hand to get all of the proportions right. Q: What did you learn from completing this drawing? If you could recreate your piece what would you do differently to enhance the final outcome? A: I learned that contour drawings utilize a single, flowing line. If I could recreate my piece, I would focus on some details of the room to make it pop. I would also work on getting the proportions right of the room. The first week of school consisted of learning about contour lines. There are two types, blind and modified. I did three blind contour (not looking at the subject) and modified contour (looking at the subject) drawings of my hand in different positions. I also drew a shoe and my backpack using modified contour. Click to view on the blind contour hand drawings: Click to view on the modified contour hand drawings: Here is the modified contour drawing of the shoe. The first few days of Drawing consisted of drawing four things to help Ms. Rossi see where everyone was at in terms of skill. These included drawing a tree in a landscape, an animal, a street scene and the artist's hand. I feel most confident about the tree and the street scene, whereas the animal and hand did not come easy to me. I hope that this class will teach me a lot about drawing everything, so I can perfect those animal and hand drawings later on. Click to view my tree, animal, street scene and my hand drawing.
